This SuperChassis is optimized for virtualization, streaming storage, cloud backup, surveillance, and more. The 45-bay Supermicro SuperChassis 946LE1C-R1K66JBOD platform supports an optional LCD monitor that shows the status of numerous system components on the front of the system. JBOD systems have a simpler storage architecture because they only house drives, but they are nevertheless used in business settings where users wish to keep the storage close to the host. It supports SAS/SATA 12Gb/s drive bays on a single expander backplane board, plus and external cascading expander for high performance.
Depending on how this system is configured, supported power supplies include 1000W or 1600W redundant high-efficiency platinum level PSUs. The CPU and memory functionalities are not available for JBOD storage enclosures as this system is connected to other servers that use this system as a storage repository for just a bunch of disks (JBOD) storage.
The memory and processor capabilities are not offered for JBOD storage enclosures.
The SuperChassis 946LE1C-R1K66JBOD is a 4U storage-only system used to house 45x 3.5” SAS/SATA 12Gb/s hot-swap drive bays. Either HDD or SSD drives can be installed by opening the top cover of the chassis. Featuring hot-swap capabilities, the drives can be removed without powering down the system if the operating system supports RAID, which it does. The C621A Chipset, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10, supports onboard SATA (6Gbps). A Broadcom 3908 with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 handles SAS communication for the 3.5" bays (12Gbps). For exceptional productivity and reliability, there are 4x Mini-SAS HD ports for Internal/External Cascading Expander Combinations.
There are qualified SAS controllers for the 946LE1C-R1K66JBOD storage system that function through PCIe 3.0 ports. The AOC-SAS3-9380-8E controller supports SAS 12Gb/s PCIe Gen3 8-port MegaRAID controller, while the AOC-SAS3-9300-8E supports SAS 12Gb/s PCIe Gen3 8-port Host Bus Adapter.
With integrated platform management interface (IPMI), the SC946L JBOD chassis monitors hardware health and can be remotely powered on and off. To enable, administrators can connect to the storage enclosure through the specific IPMI LAN port on the back of the system. This gives users the ability to monitor drives, power supplies, fans, and connections. Similarly, for at chassis management, an optional LCD display on the front of the system can also show these settings plus temperature and errors.
Designed exclusively for mass storage purposes, the 4U Supermicro SuperChassis 946LE1C-R1K66JBOD system supports 45x 3.5” drive bays with SAS or SATA configurations. The chassis offers 1x IPMI port to remotely power on/off and for system monitoring. Although it only houses drives, it is ideal for businesses looking for cloud backup, data replication, or high-density archive storage applications. It can be configured as a JBOD system or using various RAID configurations.
