Powered by dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-TR4T delivers up to 28 cores. As part of the Ultra SuperServer family, the system is designed for virtualization, database, big data, and business intelligence. The 1U chassis is lined with 10x 2.5-inch drive bays up front and 4x PCIe slots for additional storage or graphics support using a GPU. *This system is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x processors and 4x DDR4 memory modules.
The 1029U-TR4T server supports both Gen 1 and Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors that can support up to 28 cores and 70-205W TDP. Each Scalable processor supports 12x memory channels, but second-generation processors are required to support the fastest memory and maximum memory of 6TB. This system also supports one double-width Nvidia GPU in the appropriate PCIe slot.
The SuperServer 1029U-TR4T motherboard has 24 DIMM slots for up to 6TB of DDR4 memory, either 3DS Registered or Load-Reduced, using second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Intel Optane memory modules are only compatible with the second-generation processors. Gen 1 processors support speeds of up to 2666MT/s, while Gen 2 processors support memory speeds of up to 2933MT/s.
A row of 10x 2.5-inch hot-swap HDD bays line the front of the Supermicro 1029U-TR4T, but two are hybrid ports that also support NVMe SSDs. The other eight ports can support SAS drives with an optional add-on card. An additional two SuperDOM (disk on module) headers are available on the motherboard and do not require external power cables because they have power pins built in. Supermicro SuperDOMs are backward-compatible with regular SATA HDDs or SATA DOMs that need external power cables.
In addition to the dedicated slots for the SuperDOMs and the M.2 Add on Card (AOC), there are four PCIe 3.0 slots with one of them set aside for a GPU. You can install up to two PCIe M.2 cards or one SATA M.2 via an optional add-on card. The system supports four integrated 10GBase-T Ethernet ports to deliver the highest performance and flexibility.
An Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) port is located on the back of the system and provides remote access, monitoring and management. Supermicro SuperDoctor 5 is also supported to monitor the health of the system like CPU temperature, system voltages, and fan speed, and can be configured to provide email alerts. This management feature can also remotely control the power and reset function for multiple systems.
