Designed for rapid data processing, this Ultra SuperServer is part of a family of systems that features dual processors and is powered by dual redundant 750W platinum level power supplies. The platform also features an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) port to allow administrators to remotely manage the server. Unlike the other systems in the 1029U family, the Supermicro 1029U-TRT supports two 10GBase-T Ethernet ports to help reduce traffic on a sole network.
The 1029U-TRT supports first- and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 28 cores and an Intel Ultra Path Interconnect (UPI) with a transfer speed of up to 10.4 GT/s. This Ultra SuperServer platform also supports two 10GBase-T Ethernet ports and 24x memory module slots with a maximum memory of 6TB.
The Supermicro 1029U-TRT features a solid 1U chassis that can support a maximum of 6TB of memory with all 24 memory module slots populated. Each CPU has 6x memory module slots to each side, for 12x memory module slots per CPU, and a total of 24x DIMM slots between both processors. Both Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are compatible with the system. Intel Optane memory modules (DCPMM) are only supported using second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Second-generation processors support memory speeds of 2933MT/s compared to first-generation processors, which will only support memory speeds of 2666MT/s.
The 1U server provides 10x 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays on the front of the chassis. SATA drives are supported natively, but the system can also be configured with NVMe and SAS SSDs with a discrete HD/RAID controler. Two drive bays are hybrid ports for NVMe drives, and the other eight ports can support SAS drives with an optional add-on card.
Inside the server, the motherboard features 4x PCIe 3.0 slots, with one dedicated for a graphics card. Just like the other servers in the 1029U family, the Supermicro 1029U-TRT also supports up to two PCIe M.2 cards or one SATA M.2 via an optional add-on card. In order to have full access to all PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs must be installed.
This system supports version 2.0 of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI 2.0), which has a port located on the back of the chassis to remotely access and monitor the system. The system also supports Intel Node Manager, Supermicro Update Manager (SUM), Supermicro Power Manager (SPM), and Supermicro Server Manager (SSM). The most prominent management feature is SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) which monitors system health such as fan speed, temperature, power consumption, and memory. Administrators can enable notifications to receive up-to-date information and alerts via email.
