The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR25M is a two-processor platform for dynamic computing workloads, virtualization, and cloud solutions. Intel’s C621 chipset supports a maximum of two Intel Xeon Scalable processors cooled with four heavy duty fans and an air shroud to direct air flow. The server’s layout allows easy access to components for upgrade or replacement of any part. Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 are supported, but memory speeds vary. Gen 1 runs at memory speeds of up to 2666MT/s, while Gen 2 processors run at a top speed of 2933MT/s. The Intel Xeon 8100/6100/5100/4100/3100 processor series comes in two models: Fabric (F Model) and Non-Fabric (Non-F Model), but only the Non-Fabric model is supported on this system and only using Gen 1 processors. It features dual 1000-watt, titanium level, redundant power supplies.
The Supermicro 2029U-E1CR25M features a solid 2U chassis design that can support a maximum of 6TB of memory with all 24 memory module slots populated. Each processor supports six memory channels and 12x memory module slots with two memory modules allocated per channel. Both registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported, but cannot be mixed. Non-Volatile DIMMs (NV-DIMM) and Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM) are also supported but only using Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
The 2U server provides 24x 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays up front and can support SATA drives natively or up to SAS drives using a PCIe an add-on card (AOC). Using an AOC, you can also install up to 4x NVMe drives paired with up to 20 SAS drives. There’s also an option for 2x SATA 2.5-inch drives in the rear, and 2x internal M.2 solid state drives for more storage or to support the operating system. *The server can be purchased with or without drives installed.
Inside the server, the chassis features 8x PCIe 3.0 slots to support additional functionality. Just like previous models, the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR25M also supports up to 2x M.2 solid state drives using a PCIe card or one SATA, which can be installed on the optional ultra-riser card. In order to have full access to all PCIe slots, both CPUs must be installed.
Just like the other models in the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E series, this system supports version 2.0 of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). The company also supports the Redfish API management standard, as well as SuperDoctor 5 (SD5). The program monitors system health such as fan speed, temperature, voltage, power consumption, and memory. The user can enable notifications to receive real-time information and alerts via email or Simple Network Management Protocol.
