The 2U Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR4 is a good fit for network infrastructure, video processing, artificial intelligence, and general data center virtualization. The system supports 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors with a total of 24x memory module slots for up to 6TB of memory. There are 24x hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays up front with options for adding more storage.
As part of the SuperServer SYS-2029U-E series, this model features 4x 1GbE LAN ports via Intel i350 Ethernet Server Adapter. This new family of Intel Ethernet adapters includes updated power management technologies, such as energy-efficient Ethernet and direct memory access coalescing. Using all 24x memory module slots will provide a maximum memory capacity of up to 6TB. This system supports up to 24x hot-swap SATA drives or up to 24x SAS drives with an optional add on card (AOC). As an option you can also install 20x hot swap SAS drives paired with up to 4x NVMe drives. *Please note, this system is only sold as a completely-assembled system with 2x CPUs, 4x DIMM modules, and a storage add-on-card.
The Supermicro 2029U-E1CR4 can support a maximum of two Intel Xeon Scalable processors for a total of up to 28 cores. Both Gen 1 and 2 are supported with Gen 1 reaching memory speeds of up to 2666MT/s, while Gen 2 processors will run at a top speed of 2933MT/s. The Intel Xeon 8100/6100/5100/4100/3100 processor series comes in two models: Fabric (F Model) and Non-Fabric (Non-F Model), but only the Non-Fabric model is supported in this system. A 1000W redundant power supply is designed to not only provide reliable power to your Supermicro server but also protects the system from over-voltage, over-current and short circuiting via protective circuitry embedded into the unit.
With a two-processor configuration, the SuperServer 2029U-E1CR4 can support up to 24x memory module slots and up to 6TB of memory. Both registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) modules are supported but cannot be mixed. Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules are also supported offering greater resiliency to your data but can only be installed using Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
24x 2.5-inch hot-swap storage drives up front provide customizable storage options to increase application performance. Implementations using SAS drives require a PCIe add-on card. 4x NVMe drives can also be installed with either SAS or SATA drives and also require the storage AOC. The server includes an option for 2x SATA 2.5-inch drives in the rear, and 2x internal M.2 solid state drives for 1 SATA and 1 NVMe. *The server can be purchased with or without drives installed.
Up to 8x PCIe 3.0 slots are available to connect high-speed network communications, hard drive controllers or additional storage. Just like the other models in the SuperServer SYS-2029U-E series, this model also supports up to 2x M.2 solid state drives that can be installed on an optional ultra-riser card, with some restrictions. One M.2 socket supports NVMe and one supports SATA. In order to have full access to all PCIe slots, both CPUs must be installed.
Supermicro offers several different management tools to provide server maintenance and reduce critical downtime. Supermicros Redfish API allows users to program simple configurations and maintenance tasks that, until now, have been complex and time consuming. The system also supports SuperDoctor 5, which remotely monitors the chassis’ health information like CPU temperature, system power consumption, and fan speed. It can also be configured to provides alerts via email or Simple Network Management Protocol.
The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-E1CR4 is an excellent choice for data centers and cloud applications. It provides a large flexible storage option for use in a variety of business applications and consumes significantly less energy than previous generations.
