The Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TN24R4T supports up to 24 NVMe storage devices with four hybrid slots for SAS III when outfitted with an optional controller. There are two more hot-swap drive bays in the rear of the chassis. With dual processors the system will support up to 6TB of memory, including Intel Optane DCPMM (data-centric persistent memory modules). This is a high-performance platform suitable for use in enterprise applications.
The system comes with a minimum of two intel Xeon Scalable Skylake or Cascade Lake processors. The Gen 2 Intel Scalable processors support memory transfer speeds of up to 2933MT/s, while the Gen 1 processors support a top speed of 2666MT/s. memory speed will be dependent on the top supported memory speeds of both the processor and memory modules defaulting to the slower of the two.
Each CPU supports six memory channels with two memory modules per channel for a total of 24 memory modules in a dual processor configuration. Registered (RDIMM, Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules are supported on both generations of Intel Scalable processors. The Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors will also support Optane memory modules. A top memory capacity of up to 6TB uses 24x 256GB memory modules in all 24 memory module slots.
24 storage bays up front support up to 24 NVMe drives with four hybrid bays that can support either NVMe or SAS III HDDs or SSDs. Two more drive cages in back support 2.5-inch SATA drives. An optional PCIe card supports a single NVMe M.2 storage device along with an M.2 SATA drive. Additional M.2 storage devices are supported by PCIe.
Three PCIe slots on two risers support up to three PCIe slots, with two x16 for graphics or computational coprocessors for high-performance computing applications. This system supports a maximum of two high-performance Nvidia GPUs including Tesla, Grid, Quadro, and a few RTX GPUs. Certain GPUs may have other requirements including additional fans, upgraded fans and or empty storage bays.
The Supermicro 2029U-TN24R4T supports a dedicated port in back for management of the system both at the chassis and remotely. Supermicro’s baseboard management controller (BMC) with Integrated Platform Management Interface (IPMI) works with Redfish API to deliver simple out of band management. Redfish enables users to program basic configurations and simplifies management of system resources increasing productivity.
