Like the other platforms in this family, the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TRTP features dual processors, up to 6TB of memory, and generous up-front storage with 24 bays. This system is designed for extreme virtualization, data center, cloud, and for enterprise business applications. Please note that this system comes with a minimal configuration of 2x CPUs plus 4x DIMM modules.
This is a performance server that can be outfitted to support a number of high-performance workloads. As mentioned above, the Supermicro SuperServer 2029U-TRTP does come with a minimal configuration with dual intel Xeon Scalable processors and four DIMM modules. However, the system is capable of supporting up to 6TB of memory, with generous storage for hyperconverged storage applications.
The system comes standard with two 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 28 cores each. For support of the full compliment of 6TB you will need 2nd generation processors as the 1st generation processors will only support a maximum of 1.5TB each using processors with an “M” suffix. 2nd generation processors can support more memory with “M” processors supporting up to 2TB and “L” processors supporting up to 4.5TB. Each processor supports six memory channels with two modes per channel and 12 slots for a total of 24 memory module slots in a two-processors configuration.
The system comes with 4x memory modules but can be outfitted with up to 24 Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), or Intel’s Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). Depending on your choice of processors, either 1st or 2nd generation intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, the memory can run at up to 2666MT/s or a maximum of 2933MT/s, respectively. Intel Optane memory modules are only supported on Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
24x hot-swap 2.5-inch storage bays in front of Supermicro 2029U-TRTP support SATA drives natively with 14 SATA3 ports on the system board. SAS drives are also supported using an optional HD/RAID controller. Two more 2.5-inch hot-swap SSDs can be installed in the rear of the chassis using an optional drive cage. Another Configuration includes up to 4x NVMe/SAS3 storage devices that can be either hot-swap or orderly hot-swap, which is recommended. An optional virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) key can be installed t support SSD RAID options using either a standard, premium or intel SSD only key. Drives can be ejected and replaced remotely using the IPMI. Two Disk on Module or DOMs can be installed on the system board providing additional flash storage.
Network connectivity is provided by dual 10G SPF+ ports but you can easily increase network communications by using one, or several, of the eight PCIe 3.0 slots on the system board. Additional storage using single or dual M.2 add on cards (AOC) are also supported. Several high-performance GPUs from Nvidia can be installed depending on your workload. Optional RAID controllers are available to support SAS drives. Activation of all eight PCIe 3.0 slots requires both processors.
An Integrated Platform Management interface (IPMI) LAN port on the back of the system provides dedicated out-of-band management access. Furthermore, Redfish API is available for software defined data center, hybrid IT, or converged implementations providing support for third-party appliances as well as automation for simple configuration and maintenance tasks. Supermicro SuperDoctor5 provides health status and availability of assets in real-time and can also provide alerts.
