Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-TRT

Description

The Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-TRT is a highly scalable platform supporting 12x 3.5-inch drives up front, up to 6TB of memory, plus optional GPUs and NVMe drives. The platform offers a several flexible networking option to address a number of workloads including, virtualization, hyperconverged storage, cloud computing, and for use as a high-end enterprise server. An easy-to-use management interface gives administrators a simple and intuitive interface for management and allocation of hardware resources. *This system is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x processors and 4x DDR4 memory modules.

Performance

The system comes with dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the first or second generation. Your processor choice will determine the memory capacity of the system as 1st generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors only support a maximum of 3TB using two CPUs with an “M” suffix that support 1.5TB of memory each. 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with an “m” suffix will support up to 2TB of memory, while those with an “L” suffix will support up to 4.5TB each. Memory speed will run up to 2933MT/s depending on your choice of processors. This system supports 2x Nvidia GPUs.

Memory

Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), Non-Volatile (NVDIMM), and Intel Optane memory modules are supported. Although, NVDIMMs are only supported with the 1st generation processors and Optane memory modules only with 2nd generation processors. Memory speed is also dependent on the processors with 2nd generation processors supporting memory speeds of up to 2933MT/s. Each CPU supports 12x memory module slots for a total of 24x in a two-processor configuration.

Storage

With 12x 3.5-inch drive bays in front, and room for an optional drive cage supporting 2x more 2.5-inch drives in back, you have plenty of room to scale your storage. Not to mention the potential for additional storage using M.2 drives with add-on cards mounted in the PCIe slots. The hot-swappable storage drives are SATA3 by default, with an option for 8x SAS3 and 4x NVMe/SAS3 drives.

Expansion

This system supports up to 8x PCIe 3.0 slots when using the appropriate risers. Both CPUs need to be installed for full access to the PCIe slots and onboard controllers.

Management

The Supermicro SuperServer 6029U-TRT operates on various software systems like Intel Node Manager and SuperDoctor 5. The latter tracks your hardware’s health status and can send out alerts with an easy to use graphical interface. Supermicro’s Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0, or IPMI, also provides out-of-band management of the chassis through the integrated controller.
