Twelve front mounted 3.5-inch drives on the Supermicro SuperServer 6029UZ-TR4+ platform differentiate this system from the SuperServer 2029UZ-TR4+, which features 24x 2.5-inch drives up front. This platform is designed to support virtualization, cloud computing, hyperconverged storage, and for use as a high-end enterprise server. It’s very adaptable.
Two intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first or second generation are supported on this system. With the Gen 1 Scalable Xeon processors memory will run at a top speed of 2666MT/s, Gen 2 processors support memory speeds of up to 2933MT/s. Each processor supports 12x memory modules, with two in each channel, and 24x memory modules total with both processors. Power is provided by either an 1000W or 1600W PSU with a second power module slot for redundancy.
Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 Scalable processors support Registered (RDIMM) Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules. For the highest capacity of 6TB you will need the Intel Xeon Scalable Gen 2 processors with all 24x memory module slots outfitted with 256GB 3DS Registered or Load-Reduced memory modules. Memory speed is dependent on processor and memory module speeds plus memory configuration.
Twelve 3.5-inch storage bays with two more 2.5-inch storage bays in back are supported on the system. With the Supermicro 6029UZ-TR4+ you can choose from SATA, SAS, and NVMe storage devices. There’s also room M.2 NVMe storage devices using an optional PCIe card.
There is a total of 8x PCIe 3.0 slots using optional risers installed on this system board. The system can support a number of optional components including storage controller cards, network controller cards and other options. A full range of network controller cards are available but the system comes with 4x 1GbE integrated network ports and a Base Management Controller (BMC) Local Area Network (LAN) port for management at the chassis and remotely.
Management of the system is through the integrated IPMI 2.0 module with Redfish API for system health and updates. A dedicated port on the back of the system canbe used for out of band management of the system, either at the chassis or remotely.
The system comes with a minimal configuration, which includes dual Intel Scalable processors plus four DDR4 DIMM modules. However, there is still a long way to go to full capacity on the Supermicro SuperServer 6029UZ-TR4+ with support for up to 6TB of memory and 14x total storage devices. This system is very flexible and can be configured to support a number of high-performance workloads.
