Supermicro's Ultra SuperServer 610U-TNR is a slim 1U dual-socket server designed for high-performance computing, virtualization, and software defined storage. With support for Intel's newest 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors, this system packs two CPUs with up to 40 cores and 32x memory module slots with up to 12TB of memory. The platform also supports four PCIe 4.0 x16 slots and a dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) port to allow remote management of the server.
The Supermicro Ultra SuperServer 610U-TNR is a high-end system that uses Supermicro's X12 generation dual processor server board to support the latest 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs. When combining the Intel CPUs and Intel Optane persistent 200 series memory, the system delivers high performance and a quick ROI. The platform also features 4x hot-swap 3.5-inch hybrid bays on the front panel with support for NVMe, SATA, and SAS. *This platform is only available as a completely assembled unit with a miniumum configuration of 2x CPUs, 4x DIMM modules, 1x storage device HDD/HDS/M.2, and 1 NIC adapter. NIC adapter requirement includes either 1 Ultra Riser card with integrated NIC or 1 AOC-URG4N4 Ultra Riser card with 1 standard PCI-E NIC adapter.
To optimize modern workloads, the Ultra SuperServer 610U-TNR uses the latest Xeon Scalable processors from the 3rd generation of Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, also known as Ice Lake. This system packs eight 4-cm counter-rotating fans to cool the two CPUs with up to 40 cores and 80 threads in the slim chassis. The dual CPUs support faster PCIe Gen4 lanes and 32x memory module slots with up to 12TB of memory, depending on which type of memory is used.
Under the cover, the SuperServer SYS-610U-TNR motherboard is compatible with regular DDR4 modules such as Registered (RDIMM), Load-reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS RDIMMs/LRDIMMs. With 8 memory channels per CPU, there are 32x DIMM slots total with each in charge of 16 memory module slots. This platform will support up to 12TB of memory, but only with a mixture of DDR4 and Intel Optane persistent 200 series memory modules (PMem). PMem expands memory capacity beyond what DRAM-only systems can do, and can provide a persistent memory tier that provides high performance and low latency for faster data processing. If regular memory modules are installed, the system will support a maximum capacity of up to 8TB of memory. Depending on the type of CPUs used, memory speeds range from 2666MHz to 3200MHz.
Lined with 4x 3.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system, the 610U-TNR platform can be configured to support SATA, SAS, and NVMe in any combination. Since all drives are SATA by default, additional hardware is required to enable SAS and NVMe. The drives are mounted in tool-less drive carriers for easy removal and proper airflow. You can also install up to two M.2 cards on the motherboard if additional storage is needed, or to support the OS.
The Supermicro SuperServer SYS-610U-TNR has 4x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots accessible through the rear of the chassis. This system includes riser cards that provide PCIe capabilities such as one ultra-riser card, one right-facing WIO riser card, and one left-facing WIO card. One riser card slot can be used for an HD/RAID controller card that supports SAS. In addition to the main power headers, there are eight 8-pin power connectors located on the motherboard to supply power to onboard devices like 4x GPUs and 4x backplane devices.
There are several programs to manage the platform including Redfish API, Watch Dog, and SuperDoctor 5. On the back of the chassis a dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) LAN port provides remote access to multiple users at different locations for networking. It also allows a system administrator to monitor system health and manage computer events remotely.
