Built for high-performance applications such as cloud computing, database/storage, and use as an entry-level GPU server, the Supermicro SuperServer 512B-WR supports 4x hot-swap 3.5”drive bays. There are 2x options for storage. The default storage configuration includes 4x hot-swap 3.5” SAS/SATA drive bays with optional support for PCIe 5.0 NVMe, SAS3, and SATA3 drive bays on the front panel. NVMe and SAS support may require an additional storage controller and cables. The system also offers 2x M.2 PCIe 5.0 x2 NVMe slots under the hood, compatible with 2280 or 22110 form factor cards.
A tool-less, top-loading riser design supports 3x PCIe 5.0 expansion slots: 1x PCIe 5.0 x8 (in x16) LP slot and 2x PCIe 5.0 x16 FHFL slots. Either 1x double-width or 2x single-width GPUs can be installed into the Supermicro 512B-WR to take advantage of the PCIe 5.0 x16 CPU-to-GPU interconnect. On the rear, there are 2x 860W redundant (1 + 1) Titanium-level power supplies offering 96% efficiency alongside a serial port, a VGA port, 2x RJ45 1GbE LAN ports, 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, and a dedicated BMC LAN port. Administrators can manage the server using Supermicro’s software, which includes SuperCloud Composer, Supermicro Server Manager, and SuperServer Automation Assistant.
