Expansion shelves are designed to expand the capacity of various TrueNAS high-availability systems with different JBOD options on an as-needed basis. The 4U TrueNAS ES24 Expansion Shelf can be added to increase storage capacity by hundreds of Terabytes or up to several Petabytes, depending on the attached system and the number of shelves that can be added. It offers dual controllers with 24x front-loading, 3.5-inch hot-swap drive bays.

Supported drives include only qualified drives and SSDs. Dual redundant, hot-swap SAS3 controllers offer data transfer rates of 12Gb/s/. There are also three Mini-SAS host connection per controller on the IX Systems TrueNAS ES24 Expansion Shelf. Power draw for this system using the hot swap 800W PSUs is listed at 231W when idle, or up to 288W maximum power draw under load.
Depending on the supported TrueNAS Series appliance, 1x to 12x expansion enclosures can be attached. With standard deduplication and compression software, raw storage capacity can be nearly tripled. Additional enclosures can be added without disruption or downtime allowing you to expand your storage as needed. TrueNAS software will generate alerts in the event of an error.
