The TrueNAS R50 storage appliance is a 4U, top-loading hybrid storage system built for workloads such as media streaming, backup, archive, and virtualization. It features 48x 3.5-inch HDD bays and 4x 2.5-inch hot-swappable NVMe drive bays on the rear, which can be used for caching or additional storage. With 22TB disk drives, the single-controller system delivers over 1PB of raw storage. Adding 2x SAS expansion cards to connect up to 2x JBOD ES102 expansion shelves allows for scaling up to 5PB of raw capacity.

Additional Information

The single controller supports an Intel CPU with up to 16 cores and can be configured with up to 192GB of RAM. Equipped with 2x 100G Ethernet ports the TrueNAS R50 storage system offers 2x optional 32G Fibre Channel ports for enhanced connectivity with host systems. To ensure reliability, the system is powered by dual redundant 1300W PSUs. It supports all 3x TrueNAS software suites—CORE, Enterprise, and SCALE—and provides bronze and silver support options for Enterprise. At full capacity, with two ES102 expansion shelves attached the system can provide up to 10PB of storage using standard data reduction through compression and deduplication. TrueNAS also integrates with a wide range of cloud storage providers, including Amazon, Azure, Google Cloud, BackBlaze, and Dropbox, and supports data replication across all TrueNAS systems.
