The Tyan Thunder SX TN70AB7106 B7106T70AV26HR Server is very adaptable and can scale as your business grows. There are two different configurations using the barebones TN70AB7106 chassis. One of which is outfitted for SATA and the other for SAS storage.

Performance

You can install one or two Gen 1 or Gen 2 Intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 165W, and that includes the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum families. The Platinum 8176 CPU provides up to 28 cores and 56 threads at a TDP of 165W.

Storage

Three separate drive cages and backplane boards with two mini SAS connectors each support eight up-front 2.5-inch drives. A SAS expander card (P3280-24I) that mounts in one of the PCIe 3.0 slots enables support for up to 24 drives with six mini-SAS ports and can support both SATA and SAS storage devices. Another SAS Mezzanine card with two mini SAS connectors provides connectivity and RAID options for two rear-mounted 2.5-inch SATA drives. For a minimal configuration there are two integrated SATA ports that will provide a software RAID for up to eight SATA drives. There’s also slot on the motherboard to support a single M.2 form factor storage device, either SATA or NVMe.

Memory

Each processor supports eight memory module slots for 16 memory module slots total with dual processors. Only DDR4 memory is supported with Load Reduced DIMM modules providing the highest capacity at up to 1TB with all memory module slots loaded with 64GB DIMMs. With eight memory module slots per processor and six memory channels, four of those modules will occupy their own memory channel while the remaining two memory channels will each have two memory modules per channel.

Expansion

Depending on your choice of Tyan riser card options, there are either six or eight PCIe slots with both risers outfitted with riser cards. One of those risers will support a Tyan HD Controller card as described above. With all those PCIe slots you can easily support I/O intensive applications with optional Network Interface Controllers (NIC) offing connection speeds of up to 25Gb/s. You also have a choice of HBA/RAID cards for connecting to external storage chassis. An optional LAN on Motherboard or LOM module plugs into a dedicated slot on the motherboard preserving your PCIe slots. A Tyan NVMe adapter can also be loaded in the PCIe slots providing two ports.

Management

Management of the Tyan TN70AB7106 B7106T70AV26HR server is through the integrated AST2500. The server ears also have tell-tale LEDs including the Integrated Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0. LEDs indicate system status regarding cooling and power. The ear on the other side has two USB ports for at chassis management of the system.
