This platform can support 2x 300W GPUs from NVIDIA or AMD with a single AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX processor that can deliver 12x to 64x cores of processing power. The Dell Precision 7865 Workstation Tower can support up to 1TB of memory plus up to 56TB of storage for data-intensive applications. It is compatible with Windows 10 and 11, plus Linux Red Hat and Ubuntu operating systems.
With independent software vendor (ISV) certification, it is pre-vetted to support a number of high-performance applications for 3D rendering, data analysis and complex scientific simulation. Up to 1TB of memory can be installed on the Dell Precision 7865 Workstation Tower thanks to a single AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor providing 8-memory channel architecture. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX series also provides 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes for enhanced computational and graphics performance offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. It can support up to 2x double-width Nvidia RTX Quadro or Tesla or AMD’s Radeon Rx or Pro line at up to 300W each. The unit can also be outfitted with an optional Thunderbolt 3 PCIe card for superfast data transfers. It offers 1GbE and 10GbE natively with USB type C and A ports to support a number of add on devices. Video is only supported via a discrete video card in one of the PCIE slots. Power is provided by a 1350W platinum power supply unit (PSU), a high-wattage unit, that has to be connected to a power distribution unit (PDU) at all times.
The system supports a single AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX processor with 12x to 64x physical cores and 24x to 128x virtual threads, plus a clock speed of up to 4.5GHz. All CPUS support 128x PCIe 4.0 lanes and have 8-channel memory architecture supporting memory speeds of up to 3200MHz. Processor cache varies depending on the SKU, with 12-core versions delivering 64MB and up to 256M of cache on the 64-core CPU.
With all 8x memory slots outfitted with 128GB memory modules, the system will support a maximum capacity of 1TB of DDR4 non-volatile memory. There are 8x memory slots total, so each memory module will reside in a dedicated memory channel for optimal throughput. Memory speeds of 3200MHz are supported. It can be outfitted with a minimum memory configuration includes just a single 8GB memory module to start out.
There are flexible storage options on the system with the two front storage bays SATA3 drive formats, either 2x 2.5-inch, 2x 3.5-inch or 2x M.2 NVMe drives, all via the front flexbays. Additionally, there is a 2x bay storage cage mounted internally for either 2x 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch storage options. 2x M.2 drives can also be supported internally. For additional high-speed storage, the PCIe slots can also be outfitted with Dell Ultra-Speed Drives offering 2x to 4x M.2 NVMe drive support depending on your choice of a dual or quad drive PCIe card. Software RAID options of 0, 1, 5, or 10 are supported using the onboard controller.
There are a number of external ports to support various external devices including several USB ports for front and rear. A Realtec Audio Controller (ALC4050-CG) provides a universal audio port and a line out-port on the rear of the chassis but there is only a single internal speaker with a 2W output. It has an RJ45 1GbE port and a single RJ45 10GbE port in back for network connectivity, plus an SD-card 6.0 slot on the front of the system. The Precision 7865 Workstation Tower also supports two full-height Gen4 PCIe x16 slots that can be used for up to 2x double-wide graphics cards at up to 300W each and 3x full height Gen4 PCIe x8 slots for other external devices. With GPU options for both computational acceleration and graphic performance, the system can support up to 8x displays depending on your choice of GPU. Two M.2 drives are supported directly on the motherboard and have a heatsink cover plate. Optionally, the system can be outfitted with M.2 storage devices in the flexbays on the front of the chassis using special drive trays. The System can also support 2x to 4x M.2 NVMe drives using either a quad or dual Dell Ultra-Speed Drive card mounted in a PCIe slot for additional superfast storage options. A optional Qualcomm wireless module (WCN6856-DBS) supports WiFi with a transfer rate of up to 3671Mb/s.
Dell Optimizer for Precision is a built-in AI-based optimization software that helps you to get the most out of your workstation. It learns and adapts to the way you work to improve performance on storage-heavy applications to help deliver the best settings and performance. Dell SupportAssist Diagnostics is embedded on the system and provides a complete check of the hardware on the system. It can be run automatically or in an interactive mode. System diagnostic lights on the front of the system and on the server board provide additional diagnostic and system status information. Additional management tools are provided through the operating system.
