Outfitted very much like the tower version, the HP Z4 Rack G5 Workstation can be configured with one of two different control panels on the front, a premium version or entry-level version. The premium version has two USB type-A ports one of which supports battery charging. It also has dual SuperSpeed USB Type-C ports offering a 20Gb/s data transfer rate, headphone microphone jack and an optional card reader. The Entry version is similar but with only four SuperSpeed USB Type-A ports offering a 5Gb/s bandwidth. The power supply is accessible from the front of the system and can be configured with a single 675W PSU or with dual redundant PSUs that can also be configured for aggregate mode to deliver up to 1350W of power.
Storage consists of 2x NVMe drive bays on the front. 2x additional M.2 NVMe drives or a single 3.5-inch drive can be installed on the front using a drive cage adapter. There is a single-slot riser offering a PCIe Gen 5 x16 interface for a graphics card. If installing dual graphics cards, there is an option to install a dual slot riser card, each with a PCIe 5.0 interface and x16 slot length with x8 electrical width. Only 1x NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation card can be installed or up to 2x NVIDIA RTX A4000 cards. As an option, the system can be outfitted with more storage via HP Z-Turbo Quad or Dual PCIe-based storage cards.
A single 1GbE RJ45 port provides a basic network connection. As an option, the Z4 Rack G5 workstation can be outfitted with a Z Desktop Power and signal interface for use with the HP Anywhere System Controller offering remote access to the system for management and resource allocation. The Z4 G5 rack is compatible with both Linux (Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu) and Windows (10 and 11) operating systems. For security there is HP Wolf Security for Business
