HP Z6 G5 A Workstation - System Overview
AMD’s Ryan Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors installed in the HP Z6 G5 A tower Workstation can provide up to 96 physical cores, 192 virtual threads, and feature Zen 4 architecture. In contrast, the HP Z6 G5 supports the Intel Xeon W-3400 series processors with up to 36 cores and 72 threads. Both can support up to 3x high-performance GPUs and feature 8-channel memory architecture. There are two internal NVMe M.2 drive slots on the system board each of which supports a heat sink. A single 3.5-inch storage bay is internally accessible and located just below the 5.25-inch medial bay. Using a HP SHIPS CRU module in the front 5.25-inch media bay, the Z6 G5 A can support up to 4x removable NVMe M.2 drives. 6x PCIe slots provide options for up to 3x GPUs, additional storage with Z-Turbo Quad and Dual drives, WiFi + Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and additional networking options. Dual 10GbE LAN ports are optional but there is an integrated 1GbE LAN port. Power is provided by either a 775W, 1125W, or 1450W PSU depending on how you outfit the system with the 1450W PSU required to support 3x high-end 300W GPUs.
There are several software utilities to help manage, trouble shoot, secure and in general get the most out of the system. The HP Performance Adviser helps to configure the ISV certified applications based on the hardware and software installed. To help manage the system in a business environment is HP Anywhere which provides remote access to the system for Administrators to manage and troubleshoot potential problems. The HP Data Science Stack Manager is specifically designed for data scientists to help them get up and running as soon as possible. For security, HP Wolf Pro Security Edition comes pre-loaded on select SKUs and can help businesses defend against malware and ransomware attacks. There are quite a few other options including the HP Systems Software Manager and HP Smart Support.
