HP Z8 Fury G5 Workstation

Performance

All told, the HP Z8 Fury G5 Workstation can support up to 120TB of storage. This system is designed for simulations and complex rendering, plus film and video editing. With support for up to 4x NVIDIA RTX A6000 Ada generation GPUs or 2x AMD Radeon W6800 GPUs this system can easily tackle large data sets and analytics. Z8 Fury features a single Intel Xeon w9 processor with up to 56x physical cores and 112 virtual threads. The Xeon w7 can offer up to 28x cores and 56 virtual threads, while this w5 CPU supports up to 16x cores. The non-Fury Z8 G4 features dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors for up to 64 cores with 2x 32 core processors installed. Both can support optional NVMe storage bays up front but the Fury can be outfitted with up to 4x compared to the standard Z8 G4, which will only support 2x.

There are plenty of ports both front and back, including support for optional Thunderbolt 4 technology offering super-fast data transfers for large file sets. As another option, 2x USB 3.2 SuperSpeed Type -C connectors offering transfer rates of up to 20Gb/s, plus 2x 10GbE ports for network connectivity. With up to 4x 300W GPUs supported on this platform, there are a few PSU options including, 1450W, 2250W and redundant 1450W and 1125W PSUs. The system has a Realtek ALC3205-CG for audio, plus WiFi and Bluetooth, which are supported with the installation of optional hardware.

Memory

With the initial release the system will host up to 1TB of memory. Shortly after release the system will be capable of supporting up to 2TB of memory. Memory speeds of up to 4800MHz are supported using DDR5 Registered ECC SDRAM modules. With 8x memory channels supported by the CPU, this system has 16x memory module slots supporting configurations with 2x DIMMs per channel.

Storage

At full capacity, the Fury can support up to 120TB of storage using a variety of different options. Options supported on this platform include 2x internal 3.5-inch storage bays, up to 4x NVMe hot-swap storage bays on front, and 6x internally mounted NVMe M.2 drives, to name a few. The 3.5-inch drive trays support SATA drive formats natively.

Expansion

Intel’s Xeon W-3400 processors deliver up to 112 PCIe 5.0 lanes to support a number of expansion slots and NVMe devices on the Fury workstation. The W790 chipset enables 16x PCIe 4.0 slots for high-speed access to additional SSD storage. There are a number of PCIe slots available on the system board, including 2x PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots that can be used to host up to 4x high-performance double-wide GPUs from NVIDIA or up to 2x AMD Radeon cards. Only with both processors installed are all PCIe slots active on this system.

Summary

Administrators can manage the HP Z8 Fury G5 Workstation using the HP Anywhere remote system controller. Similar to a Teridici card, HP Anywhere is available as an external brick or by a PCIe mounted card. With HP Anywhere, IT Administrators can support and maintain their hybrid workers from anywhere, power on and off, get information on inventory and is OS agnostic for both Windows and Linux operating systems. As a single socket workstation, this system offers incredible performance and features independent software verification (ISV) certification to work with many of the most computationally demanding software applications.
