Featuring a 2x socket motherboard, the HP Z8 G5 Workstation can provide up to 64 cores using 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 32x cores each. This platform can also be outfitted with up to 2x double-wide GPUs like the NVIDIA RTX A6000 Ada Generation GPUs or 2x AMD Radeon W6800 GPUs, ideal for AI applications. It will also support up to 1TB of memory, and up to 120TB of storage using a variety of devices.
Designed for processor-intensive workloads, the HP Z8 G5 Workstation supports Gold and Silver 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, with the Gold-series CPUs topping out at 32x cores and Silver at up to 20x cores each. With two top-of-the-line 32 core Gold-series processors installed, the Z8 G5 can support up to 64x physical cores and 128 virtual threads for applications that benefit from multi-core processors. Although, not all applications will necessarily benefit from an abundance of cores. 4th generation CPUs also support PCIe 5.0, offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. DDR5 memory also provides a better medium for memory-intensive workloads.
This platform features independent software verification (ISV) for use with a number of common software applications. This system is ideal for applications in 3D rendering, model training and development, data visualization, plus real-time ray tracing for software development and architecture. There are more options with power supplies including a 1700W, 1450W and 1125W internal power supply unit, all boasting an efficiency rating of 90%.
At memory speeds of up to 4800MHz, DDR5 memory provides up to 1.5x the bandwidth over DDR4 memory. The Z8 G5 can support up to 1TB of memory with 16x active DIMM slots when both processors are installed. Shortly after release, the supported memory is set to increase for up to 2TB of memory. For the top memory speed of 4800MHz only 1x DIMM per channel (DPC) is supported with the CPU providing 8x memory channels and 16x memory module slots on the system board. With 2x DPC memory speeds will be reduced.
Many storage options are available on the HP Z8 G5 Workstation, not the least of which are 2x optional front accessible, hot swappable NVMe M.2 drive bays. At full capacity using various storage devices it can support up to 120TB. Internally, the system offers 4x 3.5-inch storage bays plus up to 6x NVMe M.2 storage devices, and optional HP Z Turbo drives.
The system comes with a 1GbE port but can also be outfitted with 10GbE as an option and for less than a PCIe add-in card. It can support 2x double-wide NVIDIA RTX A6000 cards or 2x AMD Radeon W6800 GPUs using two of the PCIe x16 slots. In total, there are 3x x16 slots supported by either a PCIe 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 PCIe bus connection. Then there are 3x x8 PCIe slots and 2x x4 slots all supported by different PCIe bandwidths. 4x PCIe 4.0 slots are internal access only and provide support for M.2 drives. If only a single CPU is installed, the 1x PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and PCIe 3.0 x16 slot will not be active.
Offering a sleek black case, the HP Z8 G5 tower workstation is a highly flexible platform designed for a number of applications in Analytics, AI, Simulation, 3D rendering, and many others. Outfitted with dual 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, it can provide up to 1TB of memory, supports 2x high-end GPUs and can provide up to 120TB of storage using various mediums. Audio is provided by a Realtek ALC3205-CG with an audio in/out port in back, and a headphone/microphone combo on the front of the system. The tower also supports Thunderbolt 4 technology as an option for fast data transfers. Monitor support is dependent on the installed GPUs. In addition, HP Anywhere is designed for fleets of HP Z-series workstations to be managed remotely by an Administrator and is available with a paid subscription of 1-3 years.
