The Lenovo ThinkStation P710 Workstation delivers powerful two-socket performance with Intel's E5-2600 v4 processor family and DDR4 memory. This system is ISV certified to deliver the best performance on industry-leading software and is shoehorned between the top-of-the-line dual socket P910 and the single-socket P510 workstations.
With dual processors, the Lenovo ThinkStation P710 workstation is a powerful performer on challenging compute tasks like complex coding, architectural design, 3D CAD/CAM, medical imaging, and audio visual editing. This platform is highly adaptable to your work style with multiple USB ports front and back and support for up to three GPU graphics or computational accelerators.
The main difference between this system and Lenovo's previous generation Thinkstation P700 is support for Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors which offer a 22% gain in performance over the Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors.
Independent Software Verification (ISV) ensures the hardware and system software is compatible with industry leading applications in architecture, engineering, finance, and entertainment. Rigorous testing ensures the applications you run on this system will run smoothly and without issue with all supported hardware and software.
With support for Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors, the system also supports faster Registered DDR4 memory modules (RDIMM) at 2400MHz compared to 2133MHz using a v3 processor. Fully loaded with 32GB RDIMM modules in all 12 slots, and outfitted with dual processors the system sill support up to 384GB of memory. LRDIMM modules are not supported on this platform and memory speed is dependent on a compatible processor and memory configuration.
Storage on this system is quite impressive with a potential for up to 12 storage devices, and a maximum storage capacity of 36TB. On certain models, the four internal drive bays support a Flex Tray, which can hold either one 2.5-inch drive, one 3.5-inch drive, a combination of 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives, or two 2.5-inch drives in the same bay using a storage converter. Additionally, the upper 5.25-inch media bays on the front of the system can also be converted to support either one or two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drives, SATA only. A Flex Connector just above the internal storage bays can support a maximum of two optional dual M.2 storage devices using a Flex Adapter. The system features an integrated storage controller operating a 6Gb/s but for more RAID options and faster speed, users can install an optional LSI 9364-8iPCIe adapter with 1GB memory and 12Gb/s SAS SATA support.
There are six expansion slots on the system including support for up to three GPU graphics or computational accelerators from Nvidia. The single Flex Connector is also technically a PCI slot but resides just behind the front panel above the internal HD bays and can be outfitted with optional M.2 storage or an LSI RAID Flex Adapter for storage devices installed in the front 5.25-inch Flex Bays. The system can also be outfitted with optional single, dual, and quad-port 1GbE Network Interface Controllers (NICs). Optional front and rear mounted Firewire, Thunderbolt, and Wi-Fi add-in cards are also available. The P710 features generous USB ports front and back to support a bunch of external devices. Integrated Realtec Audio is standard and video is not supported natively but again with support for up to three GPUs and with four ports each, it can support up to 12 monitors.
Lenovo Solution Center is pre-installed on the system and helps to identify and resolve computer issues by providing diagnostics, security status, and performance recommendations. There are also several other pre-installed programs on the system including the UEFI diagnostic program to test and monitor memory and storage components. A hardware diagnostics function monitors the system in real time and will activate a light on the front panel adjacent to the power button in the event of an error. To get more information about the error, users can connect to the diagnostic USB connector on the front of the system using a USB key or Android device equipped with the Lenovo Workstation Diagnostic app. Lenovo's Performance Tuner is a free download that can help workstation users' fine tune their system for better performance with single- and multi-threaded applications.
The Lenovo ThinkStation P710 workstation is very adaptable to your work style and supports powerful performance to tackle the most demanding tasks. Using Lenovo's performance tuner will also help you get the most out of those single threaded applications like AutoCAD® and Dassault® SOLIDWORKS® (also games!) while still providing multi-threaded applications, like ANSYS® the cores they need to perform without consuming all of the system resources.
