The Gigabyte R281-G30 rack server features dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and supports a 6-channel memory architecture with up to 24x DIMM slots. The system also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent memory modules and up to 24x SATA/SAS drive bays lining the front panel.
At 2U, the Gigabyte R281-G30 is an NVIDIA-certified system can support up to 3 double wide GPUs and offers scalability, functionality, security, and performance. The dual Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs support a 6-channel memory architecture, which in turn supports up to 24x DIMM slots with up to 3TB of memory. This system is ideal for artificial intelligence, visual computing, high-performance computing, and networking.
The Gigabyte R281-G30 server is powered by dual processors from the Intel Xeon Scalable processor family with Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum SKUs. Both first and second-generation CPUs are compatible with the MR91-FS0 motherboard and support up to 24x DIMM slots. Each CPU can have up to 28 cores and 56 threads, and limited to a thermal design point of up to 205W. Some PCIe or memory operations may be unavailable if only one CPU is mounted.
With the Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, the system supports a 6-channel memory architecture, with 2x memory modules per channel, for a total of 12x per CPU and 24x DIMM slots total. DDR4 RDIMM modules support memory modules up to 64GB for a total of 1.5TB when all DIMM slots are populated. LRDIMM modules support memory modules up to 128GB for a total capacity of 3TB. In addition to DDR4 memory, the system’s motherboard also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent (DCPMM) memory modules, which can populate 12x DIMM slots with memory modules of up to 256GB each, but must be paired with RDIMMs.
Configured with 24x 2.5” drive bays on the front panel, this server is compatible with SATA or SAS drive formats when using an add-on controller. All drive bays are hot-swappable and can be outfitted with hard disk or solid-state drives.
The Gigabyte R281-G30 supports up to 3x double-width GPUs including the AMD Instinct MI100, NVIDIA A100, NVIDIA V100S, and NVIDIA Quadro. As and NVIDIA-certified system, it focuses on NVIDIA architecture and NVIDIA Mellanox network adapters, for now. The system also supports three risers with up to 8x PCIe Gen3 expansion slots. 2x OCP Gen3 x16 mezzanine slots can host OCP mezzanine cards providing additional I/O ports and connection speed options.
*Support is not provided for mixed GPU populations.To manage the server, Gigabyte offers two free-of-cost options. The first software is the Gigabyte Management Console, which is intended for use with a single server. The Gigabyte Server Manager monitors and controls a group of servers. Remote troubleshooting, inventory information, health status, and out-of-band reboot are all available through a browser-based user-friendly interface.
At 2U, the Gigabyte R281-G30 server offers support for up to 3x double-width GPUS and 24x 2.5” hot-swap bays up front. In addition, the system also supports up to 3TB of memory. Compatible with Intel Xeon Scalable 1st and 2nd generation processors, the system can also be outfitted with Intel’s DCPMM while generating more speed, capacity, and security.
