The 8-bay Dell PowerEdge R470 Server is a single-socket system powered by an Intel Xeon 6 processor with up to 144 cores. The CPU is equipped with an 8-channel memory architecture for a total of 16x memory module slots offering up to 1TB of DDR5 memory. The compact 1U platform is designed to maximize performance in a smaller footprint while reducing energy consumption. This makes it an ideal choice for demanding workloads such as virtualization, data services, and cloud scale web and app microservices.
On the front panel, the PowerEdge R470 server supports 8x drive bays with 2.5-inch SAS, SATA, NVMe, or EDSFF E3.S configurations. Under the hood, the system delivers 2x PCIe Gen5 x16 full height, half-length slots on a rear riser. Up to 2x single-width GPUs with a 75W TDP can be installed for graphics intensive workloads. Supporting just CPUs with efficiency cores or E-cores, each CPU is limited to a TDP of 330W. With 8-channel memory architecture and 16x memory module slots, memory speed is dependent on memory configuration. With 1x DIMM per Channel (1DPC) memory speeds of up to 6400MT/s are supported. With 2x DIMMs per Channel (2DPC) memory speed is reduced to 5200MT/s.
The server comes in two setups: one with connections on the rear panel (rear I/O hot aisle) and one with connections on the front panel (front I/O cold aisle). The front setup, which does not support a bezel, makes it easier to maintain, saving time and improving overall performance, reliability, and uptime. Dell’s Smart Power and Cooling Technology, designed for air cooling, cuts down on energy use, leading to long-term cost savings and helping with sustainability goals. There are two options for redundant power supply configurations: a 1+1 800W Platinum power supply or a 1+1 1500W Titanium power supply.
Users can manage the R470 using the Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC10), which is built into all PowerEdge servers. iDRAC10 offers both local and remote access, so no additional software is required. It also supports a RESTful API, including Redfish, making server management simple and scalable. Open Manage Enterprise is also supported helping Administrators deploy, update, monitor, and manage IT assets.
