Offering dual-socket architecture in a 2U chassis, the Dell PowerEdge R770 CSP Edition is purpose-built for cloud service providers (CSPs). It offers reduced energy consumption, while addressing the need for a scale-out, high-density platform in datacenter environments. Powered by dual Intel Xeon 6 processors with up to 144 cores each for up to 2TB of DDR5 memory, up-front storage bay configurations include 8x to 16x EDSFF E3.S Gen 5.0 NVMe storage devices.
For this next generation, a new Data Center – Modular Hardware System architecture (DC-MHS) delivers a more flexible approach allowing for easy integration, swapping, upgrading, or scaling hardware components. With Intel Xeon 6 CPUs providing up to 144 cores, the Dell PowerEdge R770 CSP Edition is ideal for scale-out highly virtualized environments. It can also support a range of services including hyperconverged and cloud-native applications, big-data analytics, software-defined storage, and offers support for up to 4x 75W GPUs for high-performance computing applications. There are two different configurations with this system, a front I/O configuration and one with a standard rear I/O configuration. Both options still have the power supply units (PSUs) located in the rear of the system to either side of the chassis for air flow and for easy access to separate power distribution units (PDUs) with options for 800W, 1100W, and 1500W Platinum 100.
With front I/O configurations, this platform is ideal for Edge deployments offering cold-aisle access for easy serviceability and fast deployment. All I/O is located on the front of the system including access to up to 4x PCIe x16 Gen5 slots, a primary and secondary OCP mezzanine card slot and dedicated baseboard management controller (BMC) port. The secondary OCP card slot can also be used to support a Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS) module, BOSS-N1 DC-MHS, to support the OS with a single M.2 drive or in mirror mode with dual M.2 drives installed. With a rear I/O configuration, all drives are still installed up front with configurations of 8x to 16x EDSFF E3.S drive bays supported in 2x central cages. The rear of the chassis offers dual OCP 3.0 mezzanine card slots, a dedicated management port and support for up to 4x PCIe x16 slots.
Management of the platform is through the Open Server Manager (OSM) built on Open BMC. Open BMC is a Linux Foundation project that allows remote management, monitoring, and control of a server through the dedicated BMC port on the back of the system. The program comes pre-loaded on the Dell R770 CSP.
