The Dell PowerVault ME412 Expansion Enclosure features a 2U chassis and is designed to connect to the PowerVault ME5012 or ME5024 base arrays and is optimized for Storage Area Networks (SAN) or Direct Attached Storage (DAS). It offers 12x 3.5” storage bays up front with a 12Gb/s SAS backplane that can be outfitted with a variety of SSDs, 10K, and Near Line SAS (NLSAS) drives.
Meant for use by small to medium sized businesses, the PowerVault ME5 lineup is a block-level entry storage platform that uses single or dual controllers for redundancy. It supports a number of different workloads including small-scale virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), security workloads, data bases and high-performance computing workloads, to name a few. The disk expansion protocol on the PowerVault ME5 storage arrays also includes a 12Gb/s SAS interface. Up to 9x 2U Dell PowerEdge ME412 Expansion Enclosures can be connected to a 2U base array, either the PowerVault ME5012 or PowerVault ME5024. Supported RAIDs include 1, 5, 6, 10 or ADAPT RAID, which is a distributed erasure coding designed to reduce rebuild times should a drive failure occur.
Compatible PowerVault ME5 Base UnitsThe base systems can be outfitted with single or dual controllers each with a dedicated management port for up to 2x per base system. It can be managed through the PowerVault Manager, which provides an intuitive web-based HTML 5.0 interface allowing for setup within minutes and easy expansion. In addition to ADAPT (Distributed RAID), the management software enables Thin Provisioning, to allocate and consume storage capacity, Snapshots for easy data recovery, worldwide Replication of PowerVault ME appliances, Volume Copy for disk-based backup, recovery, and volume relocation. 3-Level Auto-tiering also ensures the best performance to cost ratio with a hot tier for frequently accessed data, a warm tier for less frequently accessed, and a low-cost cold tier for rarely accessed data.
