At 2U, the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus Server offers excellent performance in storage, compute and expansion capabilities with dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. There are several drive bay options supporting SAS, SATA, and NVMe storage devices. This is one HPE’s workhorse server models and can be adapted to support a number of diverse workloads.
Designed to meet the needs of virtual desktop infrastructure, software-defined storage (SDS) and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus provides security and dense deployment for space-constrained environments. Outfitted with dual 1st or 2nd Generation AMD EPYC 7000 Series Processors, it supports PCIe 4.0 slots allowing for greater expansion of the system capabilities. Up to 8TB of memory can be installed on this system.
The 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors require a different socket than the previous 1st and 2nd generation, which explains the lack of compatibility with the previous generations. However, this 3rd generation includes more cores across the various families with Platinum supporting up to 40 cores, Gold up to 32 cores, and Silver processors delivering up to 20 cores. PCIe 4.0 is now supported with CPUs delivering 64 PCIe lanes each, for 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes in a dual processor configuration. Memory density has also increased with 8x memory channels, up from the previous count of only 6x memory channels on previous generations. Faster memory is also supported at up to 3200MT/s.
There are many storage configurations on the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus Server supporting 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drive types. Configurations using 2.5-inch drives include 8, 10, 16, 18, or 24 SAS, SATA and SSD storage formats, with the option to add up to 14x more drive bays using the optional drive trays. 24x NVMe drives is another option available via the Express Bay. Additionally, 3.5-inch LFF configurations include 8x or 12 SAS, SATA and SSD storage devices. Optional 8x SFF and 4x SFF mid-tray drive support, plus various optional rear drive trays supporting either LFF, SFF or UFF drive formats are available significantly increasing storage potential. UFF drives feature a small form factor 2.5-inch drive tray adapter outfitted with 2x Micro Form Factor SATA drives.

2x M.2 SATA drive slots are standard equipment on the primary riser depending on the configuration. A Smart Array controller has a dedicated spot on the motherboard, preserving the PCIe slots. Maximum internal storage of up to 550.8TB is provided with24x 2.5-inch drives up front plus 8x drives in the mid-tray, and 4x drives in a rear-mounted drive tray. Optional drive trays may require the addition of low-profile heatsinks, and high-performance fan modules in all fan bays. Gen 10 Plus Smart Array, MegaRAID, and Tri-Mode controllers, can be installed providing support for SAS drive formats and more control over your storage options. NVMe RAID options are made possible using the Tri-Mode storage controllers. The system includes a built-in Smart Array SR150 Gen10 controller that provides software RAID that will operate in UEFI mode only.
A maximum memory capacity of up to 11.2TB is achieved using a combination of 8x 512GB Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM) paired with 8x 128GB DDR4 Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules per socket. Each socket has 16x memory module slots for a total of 32x active memory module slots with both processors installed. Using just Registered memory modules, it will support a maximum capacity of up to 8.1TB with 4.05TB of memory per socket. Memory speeds of up to 3200MT/s second are supported on the HPE DL380 Gen10 Plus Server depending on CPU, memory type, and memory configuration.
There are up to 8x PCIe 4.0 slots housed in the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary risers. The Primary and Secondary risers each have 3x different slot options, and each supporting either all x16 slots with x16 Bus widths or one with x16 connector width and a mix of x16 and x8 bus widths. The Tertiary riser has two options. One has 2x x16 slots with x8 Bus widths and the other has a single x16 slot with a x16 Bus width. An Intel I350 controller offers 1GbE 4-port Base-T OCP3 Adapter or a Broadcom 10GbE 2-port Base-T adapter. However, other optional network controllers are available.
HPE’s proprietary integrated Lights Out (iLO) 5.0 Standard with Intelligent Provisioning is and embedded technology that is included with the purchase. It provides basic tools for managing the system. Standard offers remote console support with an intuitive HTML5 interface that can be accessed through a standard browser with a user name and passcode. ILO 5.0 Standard can also be upgraded to iLO 5.0 Advanced with the purchase of a software license key to provide more management functionality. HPE Infosight offers another level of server management in the data-center simplifying and optimizing data center operations with AI-powered data center operations.
