Description

This is one of Tyan’s workhorse platforms for machine learning, AI, simulation, financial analysis, and other applications requiring fast processing and network communications. It supports Intels Xeon Scalable processors up to 165W, including the CPUs with an integrated Omni-Path fabric connector. Scalable CPUs with the integrated omni-Path fabric connection offer data transfer speeds of up to 100Gb/s. This platform also supports substantial memory at up to 3TB for addressing in-memory applications. Power is provided by two 1200W PSUs with 1 + 1 redundancy.

Performance

This platform supports both the Intel Xeon Scalable processors with an Omni-Path fabric connector, and those without, up to 165W. Installing processors that consumer more power than 165W will require optional heatsinks. Each processor supports six memory channels.

Storage

Twelve storage bays up front support 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SAS, SATA and NVMe storage devices. You can install up to four NVMe drives in the front bays with the remaining eight bays outfitted with SATA or SAS HDDs or SSDs. Support for the NVMe drives is handled through an optional mezzanine card with four NVMe ports. The integrated storage controller supports RAID through Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (RSTe) and Virtual RAID on CPU (vROC) but you will need either a premium or Standard VROC key, with the premium supporting RAID configurations of 0, 1, 5, and 10.

Memory

Each processor supports 12 memory module slots with two memory module slots per memory channel. With both processors installed the system supports 24 memory modules total. Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules are supported on this chassis. 3DS registered and load reduced memory modules will provide the highest memory capacity at up to 3TB with all memory module slots loaded with 128GB 3DS memory modules.

Expansion

This particular chassis configuration supports up to six PCIe Gen 3.0 slots with three risers. Two 10GbE ports on the back of the system, with another RJ-45 port for dedicated access to the integrated AST2500 Base Management Controller. A dedicated slot on the back of the system is for an optional modular Tyan network card, of which there are several to choose from. You can install one, or a maximum of two of Nvidia’s high-performance Tesla GPU modules with one in the Primary riser and one in the secondary. Support for up to four NVMe drives requires an optional PCIe riser.

Management

Basic local and remote management is handled by the integrated AST2500 Base Management Controller (BMC) with Redfish Support. The integrated AST2500 supports video compression, storage over IP and remote platform-flash. Redfish is a browser-based program interface that helps manage the deployment of scale-out servers in a software-defined data center application or for Converged Hybrid IT. This system runs both Linux and Windows operating systems, and is also VMware certified using specific Intel Xeon processors.
