Description

Tyan’s performance workstations deliver some serious processing for a wide range of applications including, architecture, engineering, medical imaging, animation, simulation, and entertainment. Dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors power up to 1.5TB of memory and can support up to five GPUS. The FT48TB7105 is the base chassis for two other Tyan pedestal workstations.

Performance

One or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first or second generation can be installed on this system supporting a maximum thermal design power wattage (TDP) of 205W. This includes the top of this line Xeon Platinum 8180. Each processor supports six memory channels. Power is provided by redundant 80 Plus Platinum 1000W PSUs for standard voltage systems or dual 2000W PSUs for 220-240V/10A systems.

Storage

There are four internal drive bays that support hot-swap SAS and SATA 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch HDDs and SSDs. The drive bays are accessible from the front of the system behind the lockable bezel, just below the three 5.25-inch media bays. SATA drives are supported natively using the integrated intel C621 chipset and supports speeds of 6Gb/s, and RAID through rapid storage technology enterprise (RSTe) with virtual RAID on CPU (VROC), Although you will need a VROC premium key, or the VROC for intel SSD only, plugged into the motherboard for certain RAID configurations. That last VROC key is only compatible with Intel SSDs and is not compatible with other third-party vendors. SATA NVMe M.2 storage devices can be installed directly on the motherboard in two dedicated x4 slots. Additional M.2 storage can be installed using a special Tyan PCIe card that supports dual M.2 drives. Optional PCIe-based HBA/RAID Broadcom MegaRAID controllers provide SAS support at 6Gb/s and 12Gb/s, respectively.

Memory

Each processor on the, Tyan FT48TB7105 B7105F48TV4HR-2T-G Workstation tower, supports six memory channels and six memory slots, for 12 memory slots total in a dual-processors configuration. One DDR4 memory module per memory channel means increased performance because there are no bottlenecks with memory modules competing for bandwidth to transfer their data to the CPU. Depending on your choice of memory type, the system supports different capacities, with 3DS load-reduced and 3Ds registered memory modules providing the highest capacity at 1.5TB with dual processors. Regular old registered (RDIMM) modules will provide 384GB, only. Load-reduced doubles that last value to 768GB with dual processors.

Expansion

There are six PCIe x16 slots and five x8 slots on the system board. A Tyan storage card (TYAN P2111-2M) that supports two M.2 drives can be installed in a x8 expansion slot. Additional network cards can be added supporting connection speeds of 1GbE, 10GbE, and 25GbE. So far, there are only three GPUs that are supported on this chassis and include PNY’s GeForce GTX 1080TI, the ASUS EN8400GS Silent/P/512M, and the ASUS GeForce GTX 680 DC2O-2GD5, each of which require a full-height, full width, double-wide x16 PCIe 3.0 slot (FH / FW / DW). Top thermal design power of the GPUs must not exceed 250W or over current protection will occur.

Management

A control panel behind the front bezel at the top of the chassis features the on/off button plus two USB ports, and several LEDs that monitor the power, LAN connections, and hard drives. The Onboard Aspeed AST2500 provides access to the baseboard management controller (BMC) to support local and remote access of the system.
