Description

This GPU server offers 8x DDR4 memory channels per processor for a total of 32x DIMMS, with 2x DIMMs per channel. The Gigabyte G482-Z51 is a SATA-based system with support for 10x hot-swappable drive bays. To manage the platform, there are two free-of-charge applications that can either manage a single server or multiple servers through a web browser. This system is designed for high-performance computing applications including AI, AI training, AI inference, and other high-performance computing applications.

Performance

Optimized for the latest technology, this Gigabyte server is powered by dual AMD EPYC processors from the 2nd or 3rd generation. With up to 64 cores and 128 threads per processor, the system will support up to 8x PCIe Gen4 GPGPU cards and up to 8TB of memory. Each processor has a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 225W and a cTDP of up to 240W. The chassis is powered by three 2200W 80 PLUS Platinum redundant power supplies. This is a dual-root system with GPU sharing between the CPUs.

Memory

The MZ52-G40 motherboard comes equipped with 8x memory channels, with two memory modules per channel, for a total of 32x memory module slots between both processors. Registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM modules are supported. When RDIMM and LRDIMM modules are installed, up to 128GB per memory module can be used for up to 4TB of memory. 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM support modules up to 256GB, for a maximum of 8TB of memory. Depending on the type of memory installed, speeds will range from 2933MHz to 3200MHz.

Storage

The G482-Z51 can be configured with 10x SATA 2.5” hot-swap drives on the front panel. All drives are only compatible with SATA interfaces, but can support hard disk or solid-state drives. The SATA connection speeds for these drives support 6Gb/s data transfer rates.

Expansion

The front side of the chassis features 2x 1Gb/s BASE-T LAN ports and an additional 2x 10Gb/s BASE-T LAN ports on the rear of the chassis. The server also supports an onboard OCP 3.0 card towards the rear of the chassis to upgrade to the next generation of PCIe 4.0 OCP add-on cards when they become available. In addition, there are 8x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots dedicated for up to 8x double-slot GPUs from partners including NVIDIA, AMD, Xilinx, and Qualcomm. Each GPU is connected directly to the processors via PCIe root.

Management

Gigabyte offers two free-of-charge applications to manage their servers, including this one, the Gigabyte Management Console (GMC). GMC monitors and controls a single server through an easy-to-use browser-based interface. The other software, Gigabyte Server Management (GSM), can monitor and control multiple servers and is compatible with IPMI or Redfish. Both offer remote access to the system for health status, inventory, and troubleshooting.
