Performance

The G482-Z52 system offers support for two AMD EPYC processors from the 7002 (Rome) or 7003 (Milan) series. 7003 processors feature up to 64 cores, 128 threads and a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 225W (cTDP up to 240W) all within its 7nm architecture. When using 3rd generation CPUs, the G-Series server expands its coverage and supports up to 8x PCIe Gen4 GPGPU cards, 8x memory channels for a total of 32x memory module slots with up to 8TB of memory, and 8x SATA drive bays.

*If only 1 CPU is installed, some PCIe or memory functions might be unavailable.

Memory

Gigabyte G482-Z52 rear ports

With support from dual AMD EPYC processors, the MZ52-G40 motherboard supports 8x DDR4 memory channels, with 2 DIMMs per channel, for a total of 32x active memory module slots between both CPUs. The server is compatible with registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM), and 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM memory modules. Up to 128GB per memory module are supported when using RDIMM and LRDIMM modules, for a total of 4TB when all slots are populated. 3DS RDIMM/LRDIMM support 256GB per memory module, for a maximum of 8TB of memory. Speeds range from 2933MHz to 3200MHz, depending on the type of memory installed.

Storage

On the front of the server, there are 8x 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays dedicated for a SATA interface. These drive bays can be configured with hard disk drives or solid-state drives offering a 6Gb/s connection.

Expansion

This system has a total of 9x PCIe Gen 4 expansion slots. Only one is a low-profile Gen4 x16 slot, and it’s located near the rear of the chassis. The remaining 8x PCIe Gen4 x16 slots are dedicated for GPUs from several partners like AMD, NVIDIA, Xilinx, and Qualcomm. Gigabyte’s G-series server also features an onboard OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot for PCIe Gen 3.0, but will also support the next generation of PCIe 4.0 add-on cards. Networking or storage cards can be inserted in the low-profile PCIe 4.0 slot with minimal use of space, while maximizing airflow.

Management

To manage the server, there are two 1Gb/s BASE-T LAN ports on the front panel to support the ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC) to remotely manage the server. Gigabyte’s Management Console (GMC) and Server Management (GSM) can both be accessed through a web browser to monitor health status, and inventory. GSM is designed for use with multiple servers, while Gigabytes Management Console is for a single server deployment.

Summary

With support for the latest AMD EPYC 7003 series processors, the Gigabyte G482-Z52 GPU server provides tremendous computation, I/O, and bandwidth capabilities for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and cloud computing. The system can support up to 8x PCIe Gen4 GPGPU cards, 8x 2.5” SATA drive bays, plus up to 8TB of memory.
